Do I have to pay for version upgrades?
Absolutely not! All upgrades are free at this time
and, although I reserve the right to change this policy at a later date, I do not anticipate doing
so. It would only happen in the case of a major reinvention of the application.
To get the latest version upgrade, simply download the current demo file from this site or from your
place of purchase, install per instructions below, and re-enter your registration code.
-
How do I install a version upgrade or re-install my current version?
Although not always required, the safest way to upgrade many PalmOS applications is
to delete the current app prior to installing the upgrade.
In the case of upgrading from v1.12 to v1.13 of Geo-Matic
Complete - as one example - it is essential to delete the
earlier version due to some changes in the preferences database
which will otherwise result in a "fatal error" soon after
starting the app.
To delete a previous version:
-
Ensure that you know your
correct registration code prior to beginning. If not
certain, start your Geo-Matic application and tap the
"Registered" button on the splash ("About") screen or tap
Menu -> Options -> Register.
-
Turn on your PalmOS PDA and,
if necessary, tap the "Home" ("Applications" on older
models) icon to return to the application launcher screen.
-
Tap the "Menu" icon or the
menu area at the top of the screen and select the "Delete"
option.
- Wait a few seconds for the
application list to be populated, then find and tap to
highlight the application to be removed. Geo-Matic
applications are identified as follows:
|

|
PalmOS File Name
|
|
Geo-Matic Bolt Circles
|
GeoMaticB

-
Tap the "Delete" button to remove the application.
-
Delete any files with names beginning with "GeoMaticBitmaps", if present.
-
Tap the "Done" button to
return to the application launcher screen.
-
Install and HotSync the new version in the usual manner.
-
Re-enter your registration code and your custom preferences.
-
I just upgraded to a new version and now I get a fatal error or messed up display every time I start
the application!
See above.

I can't seem to enter angles when in DMS mode - when I tap outside the field my
entry reverts to 0deg 00' 00".
DMS or Degrees-Minutes-Seconds data
entry must conform to the following rules in order to ensure
that the application can correctly parse your entries. An entry
which cannot be parsed will be returned as 0deg 00' 00" once you
tap anywhere outside the data entry field. The DMS data entry
rules are as follows:
- Each numeric value must be followed by the applicable data
identifier:
- "d" or (degree symbol) for degrees
- "m" or a single quote/apostrophe (') character for minutes
- "s" or a
double-quote ( " ) character for seconds
- Only the necessary fields need be entered:
- 32d15s
- 42d
- 20' 15"
are all acceptable.
- Seconds may be entered as a whole number, as a decimal number,
or as a mixed number (whole number with a decimal portion), ie:
32s or 32.256s or .256s.
- Spaces between fields are acceptable but not required.
-
What the heck is a Rad?
According to the dictionary: A
unit of angular measure equal to the angle subtended at the
center of a circle by an arc equal in length to the radius of
the circle, approximately 57deg 17' 44.6". Put in other words,
there are 2*Pi Radians (approximately 6.28319) in a full circle,
Pi Radians (3.4159...) in a semi-circle.
-
What the heck is a Rad?
Another unit of angular measure,
often favored by engineers. There are 400 Grads in a full
circle, each being equal to 9/10 of a standard "degree".

My registration code doesn't work!
Registration codes are calculated based upon the exact
HotSync ID / User Name provided by you at the time of purchase.
For example, the code generating algorithm will produce
different codes for "carmine castiglia" vs "Carmine Castiglia"
and for "Bob Jones" vs "Bob Jones" (can you see the second
space between Bob and Jones?).
To enter your registration code, start the application and
tap the "Unregistered" button at the lower left of the opening
splash screen to go to the registration screen. Tap once
in the "Reg. Code" field and enter the code exactly as it was
given to you, including any leading zeroes, then tap the
"Register" button. If all is well, the application will
respond with a "Thanks for registering!" message.
If you get an "Invalid code" message instead (and have
double-checked your entry), it is likely that the HotSync ID /
User Name provided at the time of purchase does not match the
HotSync ID on your device.
Please download and HotSync MyName.prc to your
device. When you run this tiny application it will generate a report similar to
the following:

Please contact me and include all of the information
generated by the MyName app (letters, hyphens, digits - everything!). I
will provide a replacement code as soon as possible.

I already own one (or more) Geo-Matic module(s) and I just discovered Geo-Matic
Complete. Can I get it at a discount?
At the time of this writing,
Geo-Matic Complete consists of five separately published modules
(Bolt Circles, Circles & Rings, Fillets & Chamfers, Polygons,
and Triangles) plus the unpublished module, Rectangles &
Parallelograms.
At US$9.95 per module, that would make for a very expensive
package! But, Geo-Matic Complete is priced at just US$19.95 -
about the cost of any two modules.
And so, to be as fair as possible to anyone who has previously
purchased one or more modules prior to discovering the benefits
of Geo-Matic Complete, I have made allowances for a secondary
registration scheme. After installing the Geo-Matic Complete
5-day demo, go to its registration screen and enter any two
module registration codes (separate them with a single 'space'
character) into the "Reg. Code" field then tap the "Register"
button. Do it correctly and the entire Geo-Matic Complete
application will be unlocked. Cannot get it to work?
Contact me and I'll see that it
does.
Currently own only one module? Simple - just register any one
other module (no need to install it, just purchase the
registration code), gather up your new code along with the code
for your previously purchased module, and follow the
instructions above.

How do I uninstall Geo-Matic modules?
Uninstall? Gosh, why? :)
Oh, well, if you must. Turn on your Palm OS device and tap the
"Home" icon (on newer devices) or the "Applications" icon (on
older ones). Now, tap the Menu and select the "Delete" option
under the "App" column. Wait a few seconds for the application
list to be populated, find the Geo-Matic module which you want
to delete and tap it once to highlight it. Tap the "Delete"
button, wait a few seconds, and then tap the "Done" button.
Each Geo-Matic module appears in the list with a slightly
different application file name, as follows:
|
Application
|
PalmOS File Name
|
|
Geo-Matic Bolt Circles
|
GeoMaticB
|
|
Geo-Matic Circles & Rings
|
GeoMaticC
|
|
Geo-Matic Complete
|
GeoMatic
|
|
Geo-Matic Fillets & Chamfers
|
GeoMaticF
|
|
Geo-Matic Polygons
|
GeoMaticP
|
|
Geo-Matic Triangles
|
GeoMaticT
|
In addition to the primary application files listed above, you
should delete any files with names beginning with "GeoMaticBitmaps".

I am trying to download your application but all I get is an empty zip file??
It is very frustrating I know because it has happened to me
dozens (hundreds?) of times. I finally asked the WinZip
tech support folks about this and they replied:
"We typically see this behaviour when the temporary internet
files folder is full; you might try clearing some files from
this location, either manually or via your browser's options."
"There's also a known issue with the internet explorer
program; you might check the information available at the URL
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;308090."
"Another possible explanation is that an Anti Virus product
is involved; if the 'scan' of the archive is not completed when
the browser 'passes' the file to WinZip, the result is a 'blank'
WinZip window. I'd suggest temporarily disabling or
reconfiguring your Anti virus software to avoid the behaviour."
And, I would add, that the easiest short-term solution seems
to be to save the file to your disk rather than opening it
directly from the download site. In Internet Explorer,
that means right-clicking the download link and choosing the
"Save Target As" option from the context-sensitive menu.
In Netscape Navigator it's "Save Link Target As".
-
Why can't I find or purchase this app at PalmGear/Handango/etc?
Because at some point a guy has just got to take a stand.
The major ESD's (Electronic Sales Distributors) have raised their take on each sale
to an unforgivable 40% and more of selling price. Frankly, I would rather
give up the potential sales while making more of an effort to drive buyers directly to
my (this) web site.
